Child With Phobia Panic Anxiety Disorder
"Treatment is usually required to eventually have your child find a cure."
When a child has a phobia sometimes it is understandable and sometimes depending on the phobia it is hard to believe your child has developed the phobia. Your child seems like all other kids normal in every way except maybe they have a huge fear of something that is not the norm.
What is the Cause of Phobia and where did the fear originate from?
Fear, extreme fear, the shrieking sounds from your child can be heard when they are forced to do something they don't want to do. The screaming is telling you they have a fear and sometimes it is hard to understand why. Fear over time can lead to such disorders such as Anxiety Panic Attack and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
There are several ways a phobia can come about and be developed. It can be seen on tv by your child, a horror movie, or maybe even something that came on the news. Realizing that your child at an early stage is like a sponge when it comes to information both seen and heard you may begin to understand how these fears can be put in place. These fears, or memories of them are stored and may surface later on.
Example: When I was younger I use to swim in the ocean very often because I lived close to the shore. We often went boating and swimming and I had no fear whatsoever when it came to having fun and enjoying myself at the beach.
The movie ,“Jaws” changed how I felt about being in the water especially when the water was dark and visually hard to see anything. I found myself afraid of the ocean and to go in the deep waters even with other people around. The thought of sharks swimming around my legs and the fear of being bitten, eaten or killed was a constant fear I that developed and stays with me today.
There are other ways for child phobias to surface even without knowing what can happen.
Water to many kids is very frightening so many children until they learn how to swim have created, or even is built into their mind the fear of being immersed in water. Sometimes this fear comes from the bathtub when they are little when they first get their unexpected underwater experience.
Child Phobia of water or the fear of water can usually be overcome slowly with time and patience. The best way to beat this fear is to have them near or playing in water. Have them play in kiddy pools, or any pool that they can easily stand up in. With time they will learn like most other kids that they can put their face under water, swim underwater, and even swim on top of the water without sinking. If you throw your child in the water to break them in then you are causing possible phobias for them in the future.
What triggers child Phobia's
So if your child has a phobia then what you need to do is to find what triggers it, or exactly what type of phobia it is and the degree of fear that they have. Anything at all can trigger it including the unknown. Some children dive into the unknown without fear where other children are just cautious in nature. Caution is a good thing but extreme caution on a constant basis can be signaling a phobia which has developed. After you know this information then you need to slowly take them to face their fears. Give them just a taste of it and increase it in small amounts. So if your child has a fear of heights then have them climb a small tree, a couple rungs on the ladder, anything to get them to feel heights without fearing them. With smaller heights they will build confidence and one day they will be able to climb to the top without fear. Instead they will climb to satisfy their curiosity with no anxiety at all.
Child with Social Anxiety Phobia
Treatment is simple if you learn to slowly involve them with other children. If your child has a social Phobia then you will see them starting to become a loaner if they had not already done so. Imagine growing up without having any friends to lean on or have fun with.
It is so important for your child and the quality of their life and childhood to be able to socialize and interact with other children. Whether they want to or not you must get them involved in activities that encourages them to interact and socialize. It maybe a sport, drama club, or something of that nature but just don't sit idle.
Some may say your child will grow out of it, but I say why take a chance. It is awful to be alone and not have very many good friends to talk to and communicate with. Being social is one of the greatest things in life as we communicate with each other on a daily basis. If you don't think so then picture if you were the only person on this planet. That's how it feels when you are a child with no friends. Self help Social Anxiety treatment is just a matter of you taking a little time to help your child out and prevent a disorder from growing out of control. When you cure their problems then you make a huge difference not only now but for their happiness the rest of their life, "Really".
Fear and phobia
Why did my child develop these fears to begin with? Being afraid can be very natural for a child as they experience new things. From loud noises to even low noises in the dark their senses are heightened more so then adults. Your Child may suffer from both fear and phobia when growing up but you have to separate the normal from the abnormal.
Be aware of everything your child experiences and try your best to protect them from things that can mentally and emotionally frighten them. I know growing up my father use to jump out from dark places, closets, hallways and etc, Yelling loudly and thinking it was funny to see me afraid. Many fathers do this and for some reason it is suppose to be funny.
To adults the humor doesn't cause any sort of disorder but a child maybe being unknowingly trained to be afraid of dark places. Loud noises and scare tactics can leave a mark on a child for many years and possibly their whole life. If you would like more information on how to handle fear then go to Managing Child Fear.
Cure for phobia
Is there a remedy to rid your child from suffering with a phobia? Yes, to actually cure what ails them they must little by little be introduced to what is causing the fear. If your child is afraid of the dark the a night light will allow them to have a dim room. As time goes on replace that bulb with a lower wattage bulb and eventually he or she will become use to the dark.
If your child is afraid of dogs then maybe getting a small puppy will enable them to see that all dogs are not buying savage animals. Introduce them to their fear but slowly and from a distance if possible and realize it may take a little time so please be patient and understanding and before you know it you have a cure for phobia.
“Remember to do it in baby steps and your child’s phobia will go away”
